Knights down Highlanders, eye semi-finals
The Knights put on an impressive performance to defeat the Highlanders 23-20 at Ratu Cakobau Park on Friday night to give them an excellent chance of a Colonial Cup semi-final spot.
Vereniki Sauturaga and Saiasi Fuli were instrumental for the Knights as they led 13-8 at the break in what was dubbed a ‘do-or-die’ match for them.
With only one win from the opening three rounds, they needed this win to stay in the race for Fiji’s premier trophy. And fly-half Luke Rogoyawa collected another 13 points from two conversions and three penalties to set the Knights well on their way.
The Highlanders rallied late in the game and secured a valuable bonus point, but they must now defeat the Sharks next week or risk getting knocked out at the group stage.
Navy prop Alifoso Yalayalatabua and Colonial Player of the Match, Koresi Ledua, shone for the Highlanders. Tries to substitute Paula Tiko and Samuela Bola in the final 10 minutes took the 2006 runners-up to within a converted try, but Rogoyawa's late penalty goal sealed the match for the Knights and their delighted fans.
