Aporosa Vata and Apisai Turukawa test their strengths

Colonial Cup comes down to possession
Possession will be the key factor in this weekend’s all-western Colonial Cup final when the Crusaders host the reigning champions Stallions at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
Crusaders skipper Aporosa Vata and Stallions captain Apisai Turukawa agree that the side that retains possession the most will walk away with Fiji's premier trophy.
“The best way to stop a side like Stallions is to keep the ball away from them, and so that is how we will play it,” Vata said.
“We are very much aware of the Stallions running rugby style and have prepared well all season for it.”
Turukawa, who led the Stallions to victory in the 2006 final, echoed Vata’s thoughts.
“We have one of the best forward packs and we will use them to keep the ball,” Turukawa said. “The Crusaders topped the Colonial standings and are playing well at the moment, but the final is a different ball game altogether.”
“Yes, we lost to them during the round-robin, but we intend to return the favour this weekend.”
Saturday’s showdown, which kicks off at 3pm, is the first Colonial Cup final to be held in the West as the other three finals were all held in Suva.
The final will be the climax of a terrific tournament that has been the most competitive yet since the start of the Colonial Cup in 2004. After the final, FMF Flying Fijians coach Ilivasi Tabua will announce the two teams that will represent Fiji in the Pacific Rugby Cup.
