Namosi utility hungry for return
By William Tabuya
Rugged Namosi centre Epeli Dranivasa says he cannot wait to feature for the Digicel Fiji 7s side at the first two IRB tournaments in Dubai and George.
The hard-working utility back did not complete the 2005-06 7s series after breaking his arm in the final of the Hong Kong 7s. He was replaced by Mesake Davu of Nadi, whom he felt did a great job.
“When I was told Mes was replacing me after Hong Kong, I felt relieved because he is a good player who knows the game well,” Dranivasa said.
With a broken arm, Dranivasa gave up all hopes of returning to the field. He was not able to play for three months.
”I thought my rugby career was over. But my self-motivation gave me hope and I began a pathway to my return. The doctor told me to refrain from playing and then he would review my case.”
The Prisons 7s captain was given special attention by FRU physio Cathy Wong, who helped him recover in time for the new season.
“The FRU really took care of me and I recovered in the three months. My doctor gave me the green light after my final x-ray and I am just so glad to be back in the squad,” he said.
The humble Lau native also offered some advice to the youths of Fiji: “If you have a dream, build towards it and never give up. Work very hard to achieve it, and you will.”
Dranivasa jets out with the Digicel Fiji 7s team next Monday for the Dubai and George tournaments.
