TEIVOVO.COM – FMF FLYING FIJIANS

Seremaia Bai (inside centre)

Full name: Seremaia Baikeinuku
Club: ASM Clemont (France)
Fiji club: Nadali, Tailevu
Height: 1m87 (6'2")
Weight: 104kg
Born: 4 January 1979 in Nausori
Test debut: 2000 vs Japan in Tokyo

FIJI:
25 caps 4 tries 17 con 16 pen 1 DG 105 pts (28 games 5 tries 22 con 18 pen 1 DG 126 pts)

PACIFIC ISLANDERS:
4 caps 6 cons 12 pts (6 games 2 tries 19 cons 48 points)

A solid defensive inside centre, Bai skippered the Knights for the 2006 Colonial Cup when off contract from Secom in Japan, then earned a place with Clermont in France.

With six seasons of international rugby now under his belt, Bai is one of the most experienced players in the 2006 squad.

In 1999, he played for Sydney Easts, having already finished top points scorer in the Telecom Fiji Cup. His confidence grew with each Fiji cap, and he made the No.12 shirt his own until he broke his ankle against Tonga in June 2001. In 2002, he joined Southland, and won selection for Fiji’s UK and Ireland tour. In 7s, he also played in the inaugural 1999-2000 IRB Series.

He also played through the age-grade national levels from U19s, U21s and U23s. He missed out on the 2003 RWC when coach Mac McCallion insisted he play no NPC rugby at all, so he was forced by economics to stand down. He returned the following year a stronger, more mature player, and was Fiji’s principal goal-kicker in the Pacific Five Nations.

Has lost a fraction of his speed but still has quick hands and is strong defensively. He nearly always makes ground, stands up in the tackle and offloads well. Very dependable.
